I recently returned the Yashica MF-2 camera I bought earlier this year. I liked the pictures I got with the camera, but the camera itself is too bulky for my ultimate purpose for using a basic film camera. In addition, the flash was finnicky and didn't always work. While I will primarily be taking photos outdoors in (preferably) good lighting, having a reliable flash is ideal.
I searched around for another point-and-shoot film camera and found the Pentax Espio 738G. This is a "newer" camera (from the 90s) and features a zoom lens! It also relies on a battery to power it - it's not purely mechanical like the Yashica. It auto loads and auto rewinds film, and has a few different shooting modes (including a self timer).
I put a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 film to test once again, and I liked the results. See for yourself! I was particularly impressed with the shot of the moon I was able to get with this basic device.
A photo taken from behind the dugout at a minor league baseball game under an overcast sky. In the foreground, spectators watch from blue stadium seats, while several ballplayers lean over the red outfield railing of the dugout. On the field, a pitcher in a red jersey and white pants is mid-throw on the mound, facing a batter at home plate. The stadium features a large blue seating section along the left baseline, a green outfield wall with a "325" distance marker, and a modern office building with blue-tinted windows visible beyond the right-field fence. On the left, a bright yellow tulip is fully open, facing slightly left. To its right, a second tulip features a striking orange and yellow gradient pattern on its petals, completely open to reveal a dark center. Both flowers sprout from clumps of broad green leaves on a patch of dry dirt, with a grey metal utility pipe running vertically down the brick wall in the upper-left background. A continuous wall of dark grey metal lockers stretches down the right side of the hallway, each door featuring a small white label with black numbering. On the left, several rectangular, dark grey padded benches are spaced out along the wall, with additional banks of grey lockers visible further down the corridor and in the background. A single pair of black sneakers with white soles rests on the floor at the base of one of the right-hand lockers. The tall, rectangular white sign features black lettering with a small, stylized scone drawing replacing the letter "O" in "SCONE". Below the text, a black line drawing depicts a cartoon witch wearing a pointed hat and glasses, holding up a tray filled with triangular scones. The sign is mounted on a thick dark pole, set against a background of a bright blue sky, a large green evergreen tree, and the corner of a white brick building with white siding.
